Mona Dezent was born in Montreal, Canada. She came to Israel in 1970, after completing my B.A.in Psychology at Sir George Williams University in Montreal. She continued her studies at a special program for new immigrants at Bar Ilan University and received a B.A. in Social Work. She also has a diploma in Counseling for Adults from Machon Magid, and did a course in coaching (Machon Schahar). She worked as a social worker for the Jewish Agency with new immigrants; later as a social worker for the Israeli National Insurance doing rehabilitation work with the handicapped and widows; she was the manager of a center for volunteers working with the elderly - she recruited, trained the volunteers and developed community projects. Today Mona has a small business designing capelets, shawls and wraps for brides and for special events.
On a volunteer basis: In 1990 she and her family "adopted" three Russian families, one a family of musicians, related to Vadim Gluzman. She helped organize concerts for them in private homes and in other venues. She ran a support group for handicapped adults, and today she visits an English speaking woman (97) once a week on a voluntary basis (thru Yad Sara); she volunteered with ESRA Job Seekers, interviewing new immigrants and returning Israelis, helping them write their CVs and find jobs; for two seasons she organized speakers for the ESRA Kfar Saba Open House meetings. At present she is on the ESRA fundraising committee; she read stories in English to a small group of young children at the municipal library.
Mona is married and has two daughters and two grandchildren.
